Butter – Butter is the most beautiful dairy ingredient! It is made from the fat and protein in cream that has been thoroughly churned. It is such a kitchen staple that most cooks don’t even think about what’s in it yet it’s important to know what is in your butter!
- Butter is made from rich dairy cream so it is high in calories fat, and cholesterol. That is why most health-conscious cooks will try to use oil for cooking in most recipes, but here the creamy decadence of butter is essential to a tasty dish!
- In general unsalted is the best choice because there is no regulation as to how much salt goes in salted butter so some brands can be very salty. With unsalted butter, you can control how much sodium is in your final dish.
Onion – A small yellow or white onion is the perfect thing to bring a savory and sweet earthiness to this luscious side dish. Onions come from the allium family that also contains other delicious ingredients like shallots garlic, and chives. All alliums have great levels of vitamins, potassium, folate, and more. Plus, onions are very high in soluble fiber which helps your digestive health.
Cream Cheese – To bring a salty yet creamy cheese flavor to this easy side dish cream cheese is just the thing. It is decadent smooth, and meltable making it the perfect rich addition to this Creamy Spina chrich yet leafy dish!
Heavy Whipping Cream – You cannot have Creamy Spinach with the cream and heavy whipping cream is just right! This Creamy Spinach rich liquid dairy has a very high fat content so it is thick rich, and almost buttery.
Parmesan Cheese – A touch of aged parmesan adds a tangy richness that rounds out this creamy and indulgent dish. Parmesan is a wonderfully aged cheese with plenty of protein but no lactose so it can be a little gentler on sensitive stomachs.
Salt and Pepper – A dash of simple seasonings helps to elevate this leafy green dish with salty savory and a peppery pop!
Fresh Spinach – With so much green flavor and vibrant color fresh spinach is the main event in this Creamy Spinach recipe! It has a uniquely pleasant flavor among leafy greens that makes even non-veggie lovers enjoy this special ingredient.
Spinach is extremely low in calories yet loaded with leafy fiber and protein. It has high levels of iron magnesium, and vitamins B, C, and E. Not to mention that it is rich in lutein which helps your eyes stay strong and healthy.
Expert Notes
- Serve this sensationally creamy and decadent side wish with your favorite proteins and low-carb grains. It is just the thing to turn any weeknight dinner into a gourmet event!
- To store, allow the spinach to cool completely and then move it to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
