    Equipment

Electric Mixer – In order to whip this mousse into shape you need a little help. Use a handheld or stand electric mixer to introduce enough air to make this mousse cloud-like and absolutely irresistible!

Mousse Cups – The best part of chocolate mousse is seeing the elegant little cups filled to the brim with delicious chocolate dessert. Small glass mousse cups are ideal, but large shot glasses or ramekins also work very well.

    Ingredients

Bar of Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate – Dark and delicious chocolate is the star of this2-Ingredient Low-Calorie Chocolate Mousse Recipe mousse. The bold, dark, nutty, and roasted flavor of dark chocolate makes this healthy dessert taste totally indulgent.

There are two ways to get sugar-free chocolate flavor into your mousse, unsweetened one-hundred percent dark chocolate or mildly sweetened sugar-free dark chocolate.

Unsweetened dark chocolate is pure cacao and cocoa butter; whereas, sugar-free dark chocolate has a little bit of added sugar-free sweetener in addition to the cacao and cocoa butter. Dark chocolate with added sweetener will be labeled with a percent that tells how much cacao versus sweetener is in the bar.

Both have advantages, but dark chocolate without added sweetener will taste distinctly bitter; some people enjoy this 2-Ingredient Low-Calorie Chocolate Mousse Recipe robust chocolatey taste, but a little extra sweetener makes this treat more universally loved.

And although everyone knows chocolate’s delicious flavor, fewer know of its tasty health benefits. Dark chocolate is high in iron, magnesium, and zinc, which are all essential nutrients, but possibly the biggest benefit of dark chocolate is its high antioxidant levels. Antioxidants slow the effects of free radicals throughout the body, so eating more antioxidants helps support everything from your skin to your brain!

Hot Water – Water and chocolate traditionally don’t mesh, but in this amazing emulsification, they work! Introducing the hot water to the solid chocolate while whipping allows the two ingredients to mix together completely and form a nice fluffy mousse!

You can use basic tap water for this dessert recipe, but make sure it is nice and hot because the water needs to melt the chocolate to form the base of the mousse.

    Expert Notes

    • Five minutes is the average whipping time, but depending on your mixer and chocolate it may take a few extra minutes.

    • The mousse will cool down as it whips to become the perfect serving temperature. If you want to speed up the cooling process, once the chocolate is melted place your mixing bowl in an ice bath and continue whipping. This will cool the mousse as you blend.

    • Yummy chocolate mousse is almost too good to wait for, but you can pop it in the fridge to chill during dinner then serve it with chocolate shavings and fresh fruit as the perfect light and luxurious dessert!

    • Leftovers of this deliciously healthy dessert may not be likely but they’re easy to deal with. Store extra mousse tightly covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
